Women's Studio Workshop Capsule Collection

Showing 20 of 48 records

The Women’s Studio Workshop (WSW) capsule collection encompasses ephemera, a curated selection of newsletters, and photographs, offering an overview of the organization’s historical and cultural contributions. Established in 1974 as a sanctuary for women artists seeking to assert their presence within the broader cultural mainstream, WSW has since expanded its services to include artists who identify as women, trans, intersex, nonbinary, and genderfluid. This collection highlights WSW’s dedication to providing essential studio space, educational opportunities, and innovative approaches to funding. The newsletters—such as The Flyer, The Rag, The WSW Flyer, WSW Binnewater Tides, and WSW Waves—which span the years 1978 to 1988, showcase the many WSW programs, exhibitions, and workshops. The digitization of the collection commenced at The Feminist Institute’s Spring 2024 Pop-Up Memory Lab. It concluded during a pilot of WSW’s Research Residency Grant in Fall 2024, underscoring a collaborative partnership model grounded in feminist principles of care and shared stewardship.
